Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge and educational needs of living liver donors and to understand the relationship between them.

Methods: The subjects of this study were 103 living liver donors. The data were collected from March 28 to May 3, 2007 by using structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed by SPSS 12 program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient.

Results: The mean score of knowledge and educational needs were 2.19, 3.25 respectively. Knowledge of liver donor was significantly different in relation to duration after liver donation, level of income and return to work after liver donation. Educational needs were significantly different in relation to educational level, perceived economical status. There was a positive correlation between knowledge and educational needs of liver donors.

Conclusion: The level of educational needs was high, whereas that of knowledge was low in liver donors. Therefore systemic and tailored educational program should be provided to liver donors.
